You can feel the change in a single week. The evenings get busy, the beach fills, and the class you strolled into in October now wants planning.
If you have just arrived
A few things that will make your month better.
Book rather than turn up. It goes through a person on WhatsApp, and a person will tell you what is actually available instead of a screen guessing at it. It is faster than it sounds.
Mornings are the good slot. Evening classes are competing with everyone else’s dinner plans and everyone else’s tiredness.
Tell me if it is your first class. Not for sympathy, for information. I plan a class differently when I know who is in the room.
If you live here
Your quiet season is over and the classes you had to yourself now have fourteen people in them. That is the deal, and it is what pays for the studio to exist in September.
One thing I will ask of you: the nervous person on the mat beside you has no idea where anything is, and one sentence from you is worth more than anything I can do from the front while starting a class.
What high season is good for
Energy, mostly. A full room carries you through a hard class in a way an empty one cannot, and the standard tends to rise because there are more experienced people in it.
It is a genuinely better time to do something demanding, and a worse time to work on something technical and personal. Save that for the spring.
The thing that goes wrong
People overbook themselves. Six classes in the first week of a holiday, nothing in the second because something hurts.
Two or three a week, spread out, for the whole trip. You will do more total work and enjoy all of it.
