The week between Christmas and New Year

The days have no names. Use one of them.

This week has no shape. That is its problem and, if you handle it right, its entire value.

The town

Full. Fuller than November, fuller than most of January. Everyone who was coming for the holidays has arrived and nobody has left yet.

Practical consequences: everything takes longer, everywhere is busy at the obvious times, and the quiet hours have moved. Early morning is unusually calm this week because a large number of people are not getting up.

That makes an early class the best thing on my timetable right now.

Do not audit your year on a mat

There is a strong pull towards using this week to take stock, set intentions and decide who you are going to be. Some of that is worth doing. Very little of it is worth doing during a class.

A practice you have turned into a review meeting is not a practice. Do the thinking on a walk and let the hour on the floor be an hour on the floor.

One class is enough

If the week gives you one, take one. It resets the assumption that you have stopped, and that assumption is the actual risk in a week like this, not the missed sessions.

If you are here on holiday

You are probably eating and drinking more than usual and sleeping less. That combination makes a hard class feel much harder than it is, and people read that as being out of shape after four days, which is not a thing that happens.

Pick something restorative or slow. You will get more out of it and you will be considerably more pleasant to be around afterwards.

Check before you come

My timetable moves around the holidays and this page is not where I announce it. Look at the schedule, or message me and ask. I will know.
